When we study Sociology, there is always a gap between what we study and going out there and doing something about it. We study in depth issues of inequality, discrimination and injustice and the structural and cultural constraints that bring them about. Yet when confined to a classroom, some Sociology majors might find it unsettling. SOCIP helps bridge the gap between academia and the social reality that exists outside the walls of our institution. Going down to the ground to see the examples we only hear about in class and to experience firsthand these real problems would enable the student to gain empathetic understanding and will be a fulfilling and enriching experience.
